AKIN Charity
Association for Kids In Need
For the children
Who we are
The Association for Kids In Need (AKIN) is a charitable trust dedicated to stamp out the suffering experienced by underprivileged children around the world and to secure a happy future for as many of them as possible. AKIN works to address many issues facing children around the world including: hunger, poverty, disease, illiteracy, and abuse.

We provide direct and indirect financial assistance to specific projects that our Board of Trustees have approved. We believe in keeping administrative costs to a minimum so that all funds collected go to where it is needed most... for the children.

AKIN CEASES WORK IN INDIA.

Due to circumstances beyond our control we have had to cease our project in Andhra Pradesh, India.  AKIN very much regrets having to take the decision to cease supporting Fr Maria Babu.  Accordingly all references to our project in India and to Fr Maria Babu have been deleted from this web site.

The Hard Way Life
Watch the preview of AKIN's first film documenting the work done in Tanzania in 2007.

When deciding on an acronym for their new charity the founding trustees used the word 'association' to represent the letter A in AKIN without fully appreciating how significant that decision would become.  Over the years AKIN truly has evolved into an association and can now be considered as five charities in one.  Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Nepal, Sierra Leone and Kenya - all five projects came to AKIN; the trustees did not need to look for them.  Who knows where AKIN will work next?

AKIN Celebrates Seven Years in Operation
It's now been seven years since AKIN has been in operation.  We started out as a small Gibraltar-based charity giving small amounts of money to worthy causes.  Today, we have projects in Sri Lanka,Tanzania, Sierra Leone and Nepal.  And shortly we hope to start a school refurbishment project in Kenya.

AKIN is still a small charity, we focus on providing long-term, high quality care for all the children that we come into contact with.  AKIN believes in helping children to realize their true potential through education and self-belief.

AKIN has helped build schools, orphanages and community centres; helped find relatives and families for children orphaned by natural disasters; supplied basic living essentials for orphaned children whose parents have died from AIDS and other diseases; and provided education sponsorships that ensures that each child will complete their educational requirements up to secondary school (high school).  In addition, AKIN has a commitment to continue to support highly merited students who want to study further and make a difference in their communities.

We would like to thank all our team members, volunteers and supporters who have helped AKIN get where it is today, and more importantly, who have helped our kids.  We hope that in the next six years, we will be able to do so much more.  If you would like to get involved, please visit our Support AKIN page for options on how you can help.
